Expert Tip: Avoid Glare on Backdrops

Glare is the most common frustration and issue with photographing a red carpet event. The common use of vinyl and plastic based materials for backdrops is the core reason for this problem. Using fabric instead of vinyl entirely eliminates the problem of glare! In the photographs above the image on the left uses a vinyl print and the image on the right uses a fabric print. If you choose to use vinyl  when in a bright venue avoid using a flash and shoot with the light (from the same direction as its source). In a venue with low lighting avoid using an on-camera flash and try to increase the ambient lighting via soft-boxes or off camera flashes and make sure the lighting is not reflecting directly at the camera.
